Holmes Health Literacy Night | October 2025
At Holmes Middle School’s Health Literacy Night, Hearts for Tomorrow hosted a hands-on cooking session where families made a heart-healthy deconstructed apple pie. Participants learned how to enjoy classic flavors in a nutritious way while discovering simple swaps that promote better heart health and overall wellness.
Holmes Afterschool Cooking Class | April 2025
At Holmes Middle School, Hearts for Tomorrow led an interactive cooking workshop for underrepresented middle school students, where participants made heart-healthy energy bars and dessert pizzas. The session blended fun and education, teaching students how nutritious ingredients can fuel their bodies, support heart health, and inspire lifelong healthy habits.
AHML Makersplace Cooking Class | March 2025
At the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, community members joined Hearts for Tomorrow for a hands-on cooking workshop featuring no-bake energy balls, chickpea salad, and yogurt parfaits with berry compote. Participants learned how simple, affordable ingredients can support heart health and balanced nutrition, turning everyday snacks into opportunities for wellness and connection.
Girls Inc. Nutritional Presentation Series | January 2025
Over eight weeks, Hearts for Tomorrow partnered with Girls Inc. to lead an empowering nutrition and heart health series for under-resourced teens on the South Side of Chicago. Through interactive cooking demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on activities, participants explored how nutrition shapes heart health and gained practical tools to make healthy, affordable choices for themselves and their communities.
Snack Smart for Your Heart | January 2025
At the Prospect Heights Public Library, over 30 participants joined the Hearts for Tomorrow team for a fun, hands-on cooking event where they made heart-healthy tacos while learning about nutrition and cardiovascular wellness.
Cardio Kidz | July 2024
At a community healthy running race, Hearts for Tomorrow engaged youth with heart health education, sharing tips on nutrition, exercise, and cardiovascular wellness. Participants learned how staying active and making heart-smart choices can strengthen their bodies and build lifelong healthy habits—all while enjoying the excitement of the race.
Illinois Teen of Impact Winner | April 2024
Hearts for Tomorrow participated in the American Heart Association’s Teen of Impact campaign and raised over $14,000, taking the lead as the team that created the most impact (through raising funds and awareness for heart disease) in Illinois.
Fundraiser at Chicagoland Showcase | March 2024
Hearts for Tomorrow set up a table at Chicagoland Showcase, a show choir competition hosting multiple schools from the midwest region, to raise awareness for heart disease and funds for heart disease research and education.
Classroom Heart Health Awareness/Fundraiser | March 2024
Through school-wide announcements, over 2,000 high school students learned about the risk factors and negatives of heart disease. Classrooms also raised funds for the American Heart Association.
CPR Event at JHHS | February 2024
Partnering with District 214 and the American Heart Association, Hearts for Tomorrow created an educational CPR event called Hersey’s Orange Goes Red that informed over 50 community members on the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest, when to use CPR, and how to perform hands-only CPR through live demonstration.
Heart Healthy Sports Concessions | February 2024
Hearts for Tomorrow sold heart-healthy popcorn and water bottles at multiple JHHS basketball games to raise funds for the American Heart Association, which were used to support lifesaving research and educational events.
Hearts for Tomorrow and JHHS Poster Initiative | October 2023
The Hearts for Tomorrow club at JHHS created over 5 poster designs with heart health information and posted the flyers around JHHS, informing over 2,000 high school students.
Heart Walk Volunteering | September 2023
Hearts for Tomorrow volunteered at the American Heart Association’s DuPage County Fairgrounds Heart Walk and formed connections with AHA staff.
Hearts for Tomorrow Club Established at John Hersey High School (JHHS) | September 2023
After gaining approval from JHHS administration, a Hearts for Tomorrow club was created with over 30 members.
Hearts for Tomorrow Middle School Education/Involvement | May 2022
Hearts for Tomorrow introduced Thomas Middle School to heart health by displaying a presentation on the effects of heart disease and what kids can do to live a heart-healthy life. Classrooms then participated in an interactive quiz, and winners received a prize.
